Historicus, patriâ Samius, iuxta Hesychium Milesium; Iasensis ex mente Stephani; Halicarnalsensis secundum Suidam, natus circa 75. Olymp. Samô profugisse aiunt, ac παιδικά, h. e. in delicus Herodoto fuisse. quod qaulo iuniorem fuisse arguit. Carmine victoriam descripsit, quam Graeci de Xerxe rerulerunt, atque ab Archelao Macedoniae Rege, pro quoque eius poematis versu, aureum retulit staterem. Memoria autem fefellit Horatium, cum scribit, l. 2. Ep. 1. v. 232.

Rettulit acceptos regale numisma Philippos.
Nec enim, qui honos ab Archelao habitus bono Poetae, is et apud Alexandrum contigit Choerilo Poetae malo. Nimirum duos Choerilos confudit, quos recte Gyraldus in Poetarum historia distinguit. Posteriorem etiam signat Horat, in Arte, v. 357.
